Brit & Yianni's Wedding Day - Collingwood

1 December 2017

When I first met Brit and Yianni at their home to speak about their wedding day Brit mentioned that they would like the day to be relaxed and fun.  They wanted the wedding day to be well suited to their tastes in terms of styling and to include sentimental wedding photography locations known to them.

Brit and Yianni's wedding day was held in October, a lovely month for a wedding weather wise, with gardens lush green and cheerful this time of year.

The ladies prepared in Brit's mother's family home.

I asked Brit and Yianni some questions about their relationship and wedding day.

How did you meet?

We originally met in the anatomy lab, but it wasn't until a few years later that we became friends through a sketch-comedy group at the University of Melbourne. We're both fairly theatrical people!

How did you know that you were in love?

One day we were walking down Sydney road. Well, more like running, as it started to rain. Suddenly, the rain stopped, but only just around us. The heavens broke apart and a being - nay - an entity made of pure light- descended upon us. Once it reached us, it smiled its ethereal smile and handed us a note. Ascending to the heavens, it left us never to be seen again. The rain resumed and we found shelter. Reading the note, it told us that we were in love.

Having both attended Melbourne University for study, Brit and Yianni decided that it was the perfect place for the 'first look' moment on their wedding day.  With its wide range of architecture, Melbourne Uni is the perfect setting for a Melbourne based wedding photography session.  We met Yianni's team there before Brit arrived.

What was your inspiration for your wedding day?

Our wedding was largely based on our personalities- colourful, loud and eccentric! We just wanted our guests to have a really fun night and tried to reflect that in our planning.

A first look was planned at this great spot on the grounds, however when we got there a musical group (with some kind of deep gongs and bells) was playing with a small group of people listening. So lucky Brit and Yianni! They had backing music!

On the way to Brit and Yianni's favourite coffee hangout, we stopped by some groovy walls to take some wedding photographs.

What was your favourite part of the wedding planning process?

Good question....
Brit: Crafting the decor for the wedding and the bouquets was a lot of fun (and hard work), as were our dancing lessons with our good friend, Louise.
Yianni: Listening to Brit getting excited over the planning process was my favourite part.

What was the most challenging part of the wedding planning?

Having our original venue cancel on us was fairly challenging! But after changing the venue and the date we became pretty resilient!

Then we made it to one of the most inspiring wedding cafes in Collingwood!

Well for me currently anyway . . .I find so many great locations everywhere! Britt and Yianni did a great job of sourcing this one.

What were the most exciting moments for you on your wedding day?

First look in the gorgeous botany garden at Melbourne Uni, accompanied by some pretty unusual music that was being performed at the time. We were also so excited to perform our crazy wedding dance, and loved seeing the reactions from our family and friends.

Then onwards! Craft & Co. in Collingwood was a perfect, spacious, modern wedding reception venue. The styling matched Brit and Yianni's fun personalities perfectly.

What made you choose your reception venue?

It's a beautiful open space that can be decorated to suit the couple. The menu is also delicious and we had plenty of options to organise our wedding in the style that we wanted.

Brit was walked down the aisle by her father Mike. Pam, Brit's mother, was the celebrant for the wedding ceremony.

What were you most impressed with on your wedding day?

The hilarious and heartfelt speeches, as well as how many of our 'anglo' friends got up and participated in the Greek dancing!
